You are either a trailing spouse, or you know one. I´d bet on it.
A trailing spouse, in case you haven´t heard the term, is the partner of an employee who is sent to work in another country.
While the term is typically reserved for expatriates, I do believe it can also apply for a spouse who “trails” within their own country. The Bakken, currently the hottest oil drilling capital of the world, is a perfect example. Women from all over the USA (and around the world) are being uprooted as their husbands sign on to work in and around the Williston Basin.
The expatriate lifestyle of a trailing spouse has its advantages, but it is not always filled with late nights of laughter and gin and tonics.
In my debut with one of the largest expat online forums, Internations, I share “3 Dirty Secrets” of trailing spouses. Don´t worry, it is G-rated and includes 3 simple but powerful ways you (or someone you care about) can go from being a trailing spouse to a Trailblazing Spouse®.
