Loved this chat with you Sundae!!
Naomi – The work you are doing to help expats from near and far find a tribe, a soft place to land when things get tough, is invaluable. I loved talking to you about how you came to hold community so dear as well as hearing your top tips on what we each can do to break free from isolation, loneliness, or homesickness and start creating something meaningful no matter where we are.
Not sure if you have in the notes somewhere but the TED talk she mentioned is by Derek Sivers “How to Start a Movement’. He has another great talk called ‘Obvious to you and Amazing to Others’ which also touches on something you mentioned in this interview about finding what you are here to do. Great interview – first I have heard of yours – loved it. Thank you.
Joanne – thank you for taking the time to share these great resources for the listeners. I love that you mentioned the “obvious to you amazing to others” reference, because this is something I see so often with my clients. They are AMAZINGLY talented and experienced individuals who just don´t see it any more because this is “normal” to them (and are often surrounded by similarly amazing individuals). One example I have seen is regarding expat resilience – when in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso during a few crisis situations (political uprising, coup, etc.) friends who just take it completely in stride because this felt “normal” (or even tame compared to other moments of crisis that they had sucessfully managed.) I believe it is important to still see and celebrate this amazingness. 🙂
